Connect to the Heart God

How do I connect to God when I don’t know who he is and where he is?  A wise sage once said, “blessed is the man that believes, yet has not seen God.”  Is it possible to connect to God when I cannot see Him?  The short answer is Yes, you can.

Connecting to God is not as difficult as you may think.  Every human is endowed by the Creator with a Divine spark.  This Divine spark is the single measure of faith that ignites the flame of relationship with the Holy One, blessed be He, and His creation.  What may seem to be a random curiosity in the Divine is the ember of Gods Divine essence. Many ignore its prompting their whole life.  While others fan this ember into a flame.

Fanning the Flame

If someone would take the time to search in the ancient text of their Bible, they would find a recurring theme of restoration through man’s repentance.  Repentance is often understood as feeling “Godly” sorrow or remorse, and apologizing for the transgression.  This idea, though noble, is not biblical.  The idea of repentance is derived from an ancient Hebrew term, (תשובה) teshuvameaning return, which has subtly different connotations than repent.  It is the Creator of the universe who prompts the soul of mankind to do this returning.

If one needs to return, this indicates mankind’s straying away from its original state.  We learn in the story of Adam and Eve, God created them with a desire to commune with them.  They enjoyed a purity and intimacy with God.  Because Adam and Eve exercised free choice to follow after their self interests, they were removed from their original state of covenant peace with the Creator.  From that time until now, God has called mankind back.  He’ called them to return to there original state.

Repentance is returning; but returning to what?  Within the Jewish community the idea of teshuva or repentance is a returning to covenant responsibility as a Jew.  For those who are not Jewish, there is also a returning, but a returning back to the original idea of relationship to The One True God.

We were created to have relationship with God.

Where do I start?

First: Acknowledge that there is only one God who sustains the soul of all mankind.  Only He can restore your soul and connect you to Him.

Second: Recognize that there is a necessity to return to that God by way of a restored relationship.  Remember always this: You  were not created to be out of fellowship with your Creator.

Third: Repent (return) to your designed purpose.  The Divine light of Godliness within anticipates this return.  Engage in the study of God’s word to know His purpose for your life.  Acknowledge that your need to return is based on the reality that your current state is outside of His purpose.

Fourth: Walk in this light. Put into action the faith that has been kindled by the flame of your Love for God.  Demonstrate your love of the Almighty One, blessed be He, by sharing your love to others.  Give charity and pray.  This is the fruition of joyous service of God.

Though these steps seem simple, they can produce profound results. There is a saying that states, “if you will pursue God, He will meet you half way.”  The truth is that if you turn to Him he has already bridged the chasm of time and space to meet you where you are.  The prophet Jeremiah, of blessed memory, states, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.  You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.
