The Search for Truth

The journey for truth in an individual’s life is a rigorous and daunting path. The art of self examination is the key to a successful search for truth.  This examination begins with honesty and pure intent to improve one’s state.  The first step is to establish that there an absolute source of truth.  Is it possible to know this truth in a world of competing voices proclaiming to have ultimate truth?  It is possible, if one tests the competing paradigms with facts.  We have heard this saying, “A culture that does not know history will be destined to repeat it.”

Unlike any time in history, the common person has at their fingertips a wealth of information and data to research and establish a baseline of truth.  With the development of the internet comes a great opportunity to study for oneself.  Once again, remember volumes of information will compete for the place of absolute truth.  If properly vetted with facts and intelligent proof, one can know whether something is right or wrong.  A search for truth comes through careful testing and verification.  One major obstacle to learning is the assumption that something is right because one believes it to be so.  A recent Pew research poll in religious beliefs in America found that “27% of Jews, 22% of atheists and agnostics, and 20% of Mormons score in the top 10% of all respondents in overall number of correct answers to religious knowledge questions, getting at least 26 questions right.”  You can read a detailed report at the following link. http://pewforum.org/U-S-Religious-Knowledge-Survey-Who-Knows-What-About-Religion.aspx.

It seems that most who call themselves religious do not even know the basic facts of their faith.  In another associated Pew poll it was discovered that “America is among the most religious of the world’s developed nations.  Nearly six-in-ten U.S. adults say that religion is ‘very important’ in their lives, and roughly four-in-ten say they attend worship services at least once a week.  But the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey shows that large numbers of Americans are uninformed about the tenets, practices, history and leading figures of major faith traditions – including their own” http://pewforum.org/Other-Beliefs-and-Practices/U-S-Religious-Knowledge-Survey.aspx Research indicates that there is a general lack of concern in our society for knowledge and truth.  Our culture has lapsed onto indifference towards knowledge in their faith.  We are reminded in the ancient text of the Prophets which teach, “people parish because of a lack of knowledge“.

In a generation who has access to vast sources of information, there seem to be a decline in serious scholarship which would lead mankind to intimate truth.  Where are those who have humble hearts and tremble at the Word of God?  It is my fervent prayer that mankind will awaken their soul to life and realize life comes through knowing the Creator of the Universe.  The Almighty has revealed Himself in His Word by the hand of Moses and the Prophets.  He defines Himself. He reveals Himself and informs generations how to relate to Him.  It is time formankind to throw off the dogma of man’s religion and take upon themselves the yoke of the great God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  Are you religious?   Do you know the truth contained in scripture?   Test yourself, prove your faith.  Read, study, ask questions and diligently seek answers. Through the prophet Jeremiah God said, “if you seek me you will find me, if you seek me with your whole heart, I will be found“.
